TING'S BURIAL TODAY: Police beef up security

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Hotelier Manuel Ting will be laid to rest today, exactly a week after he was killed in an ambush, but no single suspect has been arrested nor charged by the police.

Ting, 72, will be buried at the Angelicum Garden of Angels in Mandaue City after a 7:00 a.m. requiem mass at St. Peter Funeral Home in Barangay Carreta.

Jaybee Aquino, the family’s spokesperson and one of Ting’s employees, said a simple ceremony will be held for Ting’s burial.

Task Force Ting headed by Regional Intelligence Division chief, Sr. Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, said a number of policemen will augment the police force already detailed to Ting’s family.

Cebu City police personnel were immediately detailed to secure the Ting family after the ambush Tuesday last week. The members of the family are worried of their security because they have yet to determine the motive of the killing of Manuel and the separate ambush that injured his brother Nicolas.

Buenafe, in an interview with reporters yesterday, said they have deployed security detail for the family after evaluating that they need it.

“There were security deployed and augmentation pa for tomorrow to preempt or anticipate possible things to happen… Para may peace of mind din ang family,” Buenafe said.

As of yesterday, the police are still in pursuit operation for the suspected gunman who killed Ting during an ambush in Barangay Tisa. Buenafe however said they are now building up an airtight case against the perpetrators and preparing the proper procedures in arresting the gunman.

As to the mastermind, Buenafe said they now have leads but refused to divulge what it is.

The task force is now focusing on business-related matter as possible motive behind the killing.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
