CPDRC inmate escapes police escort

CEBU, Philippines - A jail guard assigned at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center is now facing investigation after an inmate escaped his watch while they were out to attend to court hearing at the Municipal Circuit Trial Court (MCTC) in Borbon town.

Police said that at around 12:30 p.m., after attending the hearing, the accused, Edison Cabahug, 39, resident of Barangay Tagnukan of the same town, asked his police escort, jail officer Joyte Noval, if he could drop by his house to visit his parents.

But while at his house, Cabahug, who is facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and possession of illegal drugs, allegedly suddenly escaped and ran away.

PO2 Rey Suson of Borbon Police Station said that their personnel together with the members of CPDRC are still conducting manhunt operation against Cabahug.

Police are still conducting further investigation regarding the escape and the officials of CPDRC are now studying what administrative sanction to impose against Noval for the incident.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
