Are Tom and BOPK being snubbed by P.Noy's camp?
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City South District Congressman-elect Tomas Osmeña feels that the Liberal Party of incoming President Benigno Aquino III seems to favor the Garcia family of Cebu over him.
One source of Osmeña’s apprehension is the fact that Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has already received an invitation for Aquino’s oath taking at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on June 30, while the local LP here led by the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) has not.
“I guess we’re taken for granted, what can I say? Actually I received an invitation. But it’s just an invitation through fax machine,” he said.
The faxed invitation does not even bear his name or any of those who supported Aquino here.
LP provincial head Hilario Davide III, in a report, confirmed that they have not received an invitation yet but is optimistic that it will come in no time.
Davide said that he is not even jealous of Garcia, for receiving an invitation ahead of the local LP because he said that the invitation was sent through the league of governors, which means that all governors, whether allies of Aquino or not, were invited.
But for Osmeña, the Garcias and their allies are “maneuvering” very well by trying to penetrate the LP through the camp of Quezon City Congressman-elect Sonny Belmonte, who is being eyed as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The Garcias and the rest of One Cebu party threw their support to Lakas-Kampi standard bearer Gilberto Teodoro during the May elections.
“I guess Noynoy does not need us anymore. Or maybe he’s so busy, I don’t know,” Osmeña said.
“The other side is getting more attention than us. Di man ako ang maalkansi, ang maalkansi g’yud ang supporters ni Noynoy dinhi sa Cebu. Right now, nakadawat mi’g assurance but that’s only for the Speakership,” he added.
The BOPK headed by Osmeña supported the Aquino-Roxas tandem which won by landslide in Cebu City during the last elections.(FREEMAN NEWS)
