Gica wants son probed by DOJ Manila
CEBU, Philippines - Lawyer Edgar Gica is requesting the Department of Justice to send a team of prosecutors from Manila to conduct the preliminary investigation into the criminal charges filed against his son.
In a letter addressed to Chief State Prosecutor Claro A. Arellano, Gica said he wanted to protect the integrity of the investigation against his son, Wado, who was accused of direct assault, indirect assault, attempted murder and serious physical injuries.
Gica who is defending his son in the complaint apparently did not trust the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office to handle the preliminary investigation of the case prompting his request to Manila.
Provincial prosecutor Pepita Jane Petralba refused to comment on the request. When asked on the issue of integrity, she just laughed and said, “Ambot lang basta mao na naka-state sa letter.”
The case stemmed from the May 12 incident in Barangay Ylaya Dumanjug wherein Wado allegedly shot and injured Lou Oliver Garcia, nephew of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Dumanjug Mayor-elect Nelson Garcia.
It was Wado’s brother, defeated Mayoralty candidate Efren “Gun-Gun” Gica who figured in a commotion first when the latter allegedly punched Garcia’s cousin, Fulton Francis Riconalla.
Following the commotion, Wado pulled out his firearm and shot Garcia hitting the latter in the arm. (FREEMAN NEWS)
