LP consolidating its "forces" here
CEBU, Philippines - The Liberal Party of Cebu is now consolidating its forces in Cebu, a task that may be challenging since only six LP candidates for municipal mayor won in the last elections.
In a press release, Aljun Diamante, mayor-elect of the municipality of Tuburan who ran under the LP banner said that the local LP aims to solidly support president-elect Noynoy Aquino in the province of Cebu.
Diamante also said that if Cebu aims to keep its position as one of the premier provinces of the Philippines and a major tourist destination in the world, it is crucial that it must focus on sustainable development. This can only be achieved if its leaders will rally behind Noynoy, Diamante added.
He also said that a good vehicle for this is the League of Municipal Mayors of the Province of Cebu since its leaders could have a direct access to the president. The League can present the cohesive develop-ment program for the whole province and can get easy funding for it.
When asked if he is interested to run as president of the League, Diamante just laughed and said: “I am just a neophyte mayor from a small time municipality. Besides how can we win when the Liberal Party has only six members in the league?”
However, Diamante is calling on the national leadership of the LP to help consolidate its forces in the province of Cebu so that it can have a good chance in the fight for the leadership of the League.
“Just like the battle for the senate presidency and the speaker of the House, the fight for the leadership in the Municipal Mayors League of Cebu can be won if President Noynoy Aquino steps in,” Diamante said. (FREEMAN NEWS)
