Ports to adopt "no ticket-no entry" policy

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The “no ticket-no entry” policy among passengers at Cebu’s domestic port will soon be implemented as one of the Cebu Port Authority’s measure to ensure safety and security at the ports.

CPA general manager Vicente Suazo Jr. said this new policy is an added measure to further strengthen the port’s security.

Suazo also said that the issuance of tickets to passengers by the different shipping companies will be done outside the port.

To date, there are 15 shipping companies doing business at the piers in Cebu City.

Suazo said that out of the 15 ticket booths of the various shipping companies, nine have already complied while other shipping companies are still looking for areas where to put their ticketing outlets.

“This is really done for the safety and security of all the port users,” Suazo said.

The Port of Cebu is one of the Philippines’ major ports and is strategically situated in the center of the Philippine archipelago.

It is situated at the city frontage between Cebu and Mactan Island, the port comprises 4,528.47 meters of quayside from international to domestic zones.

CPA was created through the enactment of Republic Act No. 7621 signed on June 26, 1992 to specifically administer all ports located in Cebu Province, effectively separating these ports from the Philippine Porta Authority system.

CPA began operations and officially took over all Cebu ports on January 1, 1996. (THE FREEMAN)
