Neophyte mayors to undergo orientation

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Interior and Local Government has ordered the 60 newly elected municipal mayors in Central Visayas to undergo a two-day orientation program to help them understand their duties and responsibilities better.

DILG-7 public information officer Willie Jean Cabanag said the orientation is scheduled on June 24 and 25 at the Golden Peak Hotel.

According to Cabanag, the comprehensive training program that the DILG has prepared for the neophyte local chief executives is aimed to prepare them once they assume office on June 30.

Cabanag said the two-day event will also serve as venue for the newly-elected mayors to understand the local development of their respective municipality through the presentation of the state of local governance report under the program on Local Governance Performance Management System of the DILG.

Each delegate to the event is required to prepare their respective Economic-Legislative Agenda for development.

It was learned that the new governors nationwide will also have a similar activity that will discuss the issue of “My First 100 Days in Office” to be held at the Kimberly Hotel in Tagaytay City on that same period.

The mayors of highly-urbanized cities and component cities have already attended an orientation training in Makati City last June 17 to 18.

Cabanag said the first component of the orientation program is to ensure smooth transition of power between the incoming and the outgoing officials.

She added that through the program, the DILG will help local officials in equipping them with sufficient knowledge to prepare them for their duties and responsibilities and define their roadmaps for development. — THE FREEMAN
