Gwen to join GMA in Shanghai, China
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia is scheduled to leave for Shanghai, China today, as one of the government officials invited by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to join her two-day visit.
Garcia received the invitation signed by Presidential Assistant for State and Foreign Visit Marciano Paynor.
Paynor informed the governor that President Arroyo’s two-day visit to Shanghai, China is in connection with the celebration of the Philippine National Day at the World Expo and also the 35th anniversary of the Philippine Chinese Diplomatic Relations.
During the visit of President Arroyo, she is expected to highlight the importance of people to people relations and strategic cooperation between the Philippines and China especially through sister-city and province ties.
Garcia said that her visit is also good for Cebu as it boosts Cebu’s relationship with Chinese provinces like in Guangxi, Guangdong, Sichuan and Hainan.
President Arroyo is scheduled to attend the Philippine Pavilion Day at the Shanghai Expo, which also coincides with Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day.
The National Pavilion Day for the Philippines is set on June 9 with the theme “Performing Cities.”
The Philippine Pavilion is located within Zone B of the Expo Site in Shanghai.
The surface of the pavilion is made of transparent materials in the shape of diamonds, which swing with the wind and show different visual effects. Outer walls of the pavilion are all decorated with eye-catching collages.
Visitors can enjoy unique local conditions, customs and art performances inside the pavilion.
Meanwhile, Governor Garcia said after her two-day visit to Shanghai, she will head to San Francisco, California, the following day.
Governor Garcia received an official invitation from Consul General in Francisco, California, Marciano A. Paynor, Jr.
Paynor informed Governor Garcia that she is the consulate’s special guest to the commemoration of the 112th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence and opening of the art exhibit of Danilo Pangan set on June 11. (FREEMAN NEWS)
