Teenage girl hangs self after scolding

CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year old girl tried to kill herself by strangling her neck with a blanket after having been scolded by her parents for entering into a romantic relationship.

The teenage girl was found hanging on the ceiling of her room at about 7:30 p.m. in barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla. She tied a three meter blanket on her neck and hangs herself.

Police Officer 1 Edwin Camota of Minglanilla Police Station said that before the incident the girl was scolded by her parents after finding out that she already has a boyfriend. Apparently the parents did not want her to enter into a romantic relationship because of her young age.

Camota believes that the girl was upset because of the incident prompting her to try to commit suicide. The investigation revealed that after she was scolded the girl went directly to her bedroom and locked herself in.

The mother was worried because the girl did not come out to join them for dinner prompting them to check. The parents found that the room was locked and the girl does not answer their call.

The parents decided to forcibly open the bedroom and found the girl already hanging. The girl was immediately brought to the Minglanilla District Hospital but she was later transferred at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. — THE FREEMAN
