He would oversee all military operations in the Visayas, taking over the post of Major General Nathaniel C. Legazpi, who retired from active service.

Fajardo was the chief of staff of the PAF Headquarters.

The short ceremony marking the change of command was held at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday afternoon.

PAF Lieutenant General Oscar Rabena was the guest of honor. Also in attendance were other military unit commanders and local government officials.

Prior to his promotion, Fajardo was a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1978 and has trained in anti-terrorist attack management, conflict management, and the principles of war.

Fajardo was also commander of the 710th Special Operations Wing and a lecturer in the areas of command and control, rules of engagement policy directives, and operational guidelines and peacekeeping operations.
