Naga to launch ecopark
CEBU, Philippines - Naga City will launch tomorrow its ecopark, a facility designed to segregate and recycle the city’s waste.
Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the ecopark is in compliance with RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
The city has commissioned Fdr-Con Com Inc., a contractor which was also behind the construction of the city's P80-million city hall.
Naga City through Chiong had signed a memorandum of agreement with Fdr-Con, which also specializes in solid waste management, allowing the latter to collect its waste.
Under the agreement, the city will pay the contractor P750 for every ton of solid waste collected everyday. The city averages about 15 tons of waste daily.
But Paul Revalde, Fdr-Con president, said in an interview during the MOA signing, that the city can earn from that setup, as valuable recyclable materials can also be sold. It will also employ its residents to become part of the manpower, he added.
The ecopark, according to Chiong, will have a material recovery facility (MRF), also in consonance with RA 9003, where the collected waste will be segregated and sorted for recycle.
And soon, he said the old open dumpsite will be closed to fully enforce the national law.
