Man who "killed" cop with rock arrested
CEBU, Philippines - The man charged for murder for bludgeoning to death a policeman early last year was arrested in Barili town last Friday.
Carlos Miñoza was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Silvestre Maamo for the death of PO1 Telesforo Hortelano whom Miñoza allegedly struck on the head with a rock that weighed at least 10 kilos.
The alleged incident happened January last year in sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.
PO2 Norman Anos of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (CAIDSOTG) together with the members of the Cebu City Police Auxiliary Group, Charles Angga and Roy Martines, proceeded to Barangay Lohod, Barili past 8am to implement the warrant.
They subsequently arrested Miñoza at the latter’s house seven hours later. No bail was recommended for the suspect’s temporary liberty.
Hortelano, was found dead 7pm outside a vacant house where he used to live in Barangay Carreta. His forehead was busted and his face bore cuts. He was 53.
Hortelano was detailed at the Carmen Police Station in Bohol Province. He was also previously assigned at the Cebu City Police Office.
Homicide investigators are looking into an old grudge as motive for the killing. (THE FREEMAN)
