Osmeña OKs P3.8 million for dengue prevention

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña has already approved the resolution that was passed by the Cebu City Council appropriating P3.8 million for the purchase of chemicals and some other equipment to intensify the city’s anti-dengue campaign.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo said the P3,823,750 will be used to buy mist blowers, protective gears and anti-dengue larvicidal solution, spraying and impregnation supplies and some other needs.

While the city’s campaign against the spread of dengue was described to be effective by nailing the number of dengue-related deaths to only six since January, the number of dengue cases however continues to increase in the past weeks.

Durinda Macasocol, assistant head of the City Epidemiology Statistics and Surveillance Unit, said the number of dengue cases had gone up, but the casualties in the city remain at six, as compared to 12 deaths in the first four months last year.

Macasocol said the decrease in the number of fatalities is the result of their massive information campaign in the barangays where the people were advised to quickly bring to the hospital or nearest health centers any member of their family who experience severe fever.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
