CEBU, Philippines - An 85-year-old man died on the spot when the Isuzu Highlander he was riding accidentally bumped into a “Talisay” tree in Cawayan, Dalaguete town at around 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, Miguel Yrauda, resident of Poblacion, Oslob, was rushed to Julio Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital in Poblacion, Dalaguete but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician due to severe injuries he sustained.
PO3 Domino Ravanes of Dalaguete Police Station said the victim’s relative, 17-year-old Arthur Delone, is also now confined at the same hospital after he sustained serious physical injuries.
The Isuzu Highlander, with plate numbers GJM-972 was driven by Miguel’s son, Rogelio Yrauda, who only sustained minor bruises. Police said Rogelio was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
Police investigation showed that Rogelio lost control of the vehicle and accidentally bumped into the Talisay tree.
The victims were allegedly bound for Cebu City from Poblacion, Oslob when the accident happened. — THE FREEMAN
