Minor faces raps for death of cop

CEBU, Philippines - A 17-year-old boy is facing charges after he was found to be the one allegedly responsible for the death of a police officer during a vehicular accident evening on April 26 in Medellin town.

The Medellin Police Station filed a formal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against the 17-year-old suspect before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor. The suspect is a resident of Kawit, Medellin.

The victim, PO3 Edgar Apuya Perez, succumbed to severe injuries he sustained during the accident. Perez was assigned at the Malabuyoc Police Station.

Initial investigation conducted by the Medellin police revealed that Perez was driving his motorcycle home around 10:40 pm coming from a feast in Barangay Poblacion when the suspect’s motorcycle collided with his.

The suspect, who was driving allegedly at high speed at the opposite lane, was trying to overtake a tricycle and did not notice Perez, which resulted to the collision. The suspect was driving with a 14-year-old boy at that time.

Perez and the two minors were rushed to the Severo Verallo Memorial Hospital in Bogo City, but attending physician declared Perez dead on arrival.

The suspect was eventually transferred to a hospital in Cebu City while his minor companion was assessed to be out of danger. – THE FREEMAN
