OWWA scholarship program opens

CEBU, Philippines - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration now opens for application the Overseas Filipino Worker Dependents Scholarship Program for the next school year.

 The program offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of OFWs to allow them to enroll in any four-year or five-year courses in any school accredited by the Commission on Higher Education.

 All applicants must be a legal dependent of an OFW. The OFW must be an active OWWA member and has a monthly salary of 400 US dollars. A legal dependent refers to a child of a married or single OFW or a brother or sister of a single or childless married OFW.

Applicants must also be single, not older than 21 years old at the time of application and must be a high school graduate.

He or she must pass the qualifying examination by the state college or university where he or she wants to enroll. An applicant will only qualify if he or she is physically and mentally fit as well as with good moral character.

All applications will be subject to screening and selection. The deadline of application is on June 11.

In Region 7, a total of 48 slots are available, 12 slots for each province of Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Negros Oriental.

Chosen scholars will be entitled to P20,000 financial assistance per year or P10,000 per semester. It shall cover the tuition fee and other expenses.
