IN DUMANJUG: Lawyer asks cops to probe deeper into violent incidents

CEBU, Philippines - Lawyer Edgar Gica, father of defeated Dumanjug town mayoralty candidate Efren ‘Gun-gun’ Gica, went to the Police Regional Office-7 yesterday to request a more thorough investigation into the incidents that happened in the southern town.

The camp of Gica and the Garcia family have accused each other of committing violent acts in relation to the polls.

Wado, one of the son’s of Atty. Gica, was tagged as responsible for shooting Oliver Garcia, 32, a nephew of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, during a dance in barangay Ylaya of the town.

Atty. Gica said that it would not have been possible for his son to shoot Garcia as Wado didn’t even have a gun during the incident last weekend.

The Garcia camp alleged that Wado and Oliver had a heated argument resulting to a fight and the shooting.

Garcia sustained a gunshot wound on his left arm aside from the bruises on his face.

The lawyer also said that his son, Wado, has not gone into hiding and is just in his office.

He also said that their camp would be filing charges against Fulton Francis Riconalla, chairman of the Sangguniang Kabataan in barangay Tapon, whom he accused of punching Efren.

Atty. Gica said it was Riconalla who first punched Efren when they met in the gym and not the other way around.

A picture of the defeated bet with a swollen eye was carried in yesterday’s issue of The Freeman.

Gica said that the police seem to have sided with the Garcias even if they were the first to have reported the incident to the police station.

Sr. Supt. Erson Digal, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said that charges of physical injuries will be filed against Efren while Wado will be facing raps for frustrated homicide.

Digal ordered the Provincial Intelligence Division and Management Branch to assist the Dumanjug police in the investigation.
