One Cebu gets assurance of landslide win in Consolacion

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - Provincial Board member and now Consolacion mayoralty candidate Victor Maambong has assured Governor Gwendolyn Garcia that he and his slate are giving their full support to the One Cebu party to ensure it will win by landslide in the coming May 10 elections.

Garcia, chairperson of One Cebu, and her runningmate, Glenn Anthony Soco recently met with Maambong and the other political leaders in the town to reaffirm their support for the party.

Although, it is a five-cornered fight for mayoralty race in Consolacion, Maambong said he is depending on the support of the people.

Maambong admitted he earlier planned to seek the congressional post, because he had served three terms as member of the Provincial Board.

He also expressed gratitude to the governor for her assurance and support in his bid to seek the mayoralty post in Consolacion.

With two days before elections, Maambong said what is important for them is to submit to the people.

He claimed that his decision to seek the mayoralty post was based on the platform of government of One Cebu party. He said his platform of government echoed the importance of transparency and consultation with the affected sectors.

According to him, the biggest challenge of the next administration in Consolacion is how to inform the people that they should be part and active in running the affairs of the municipal government.

Meanwhile, Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy partylist Rep. Pastor Alcover Jr. yesterday ignored the what he called as “new gimmick” of former Customs district collector David Odilao, who claimed he has received death threats through his mobile phone.

Alcover said that Odilao should wait for the results of the petition he filed before the Commission on Elections questioning his claim as the number one nominee of ANAD partylist.

“Dili nalang ko muhatag og daghan pa nga komentaryo bahin ni Odilao, gumikan kay ang mga tawo sa Sugbo nahibawo naman si kinsa si Alcover ug si kinsa usab si Odilao,” Alcover said.

He stressed that Odilao’s claim that he is the number one nominee of the party is baseless and without support as he (Alcover) is its number one nominee and Odilao’s group is different from ANAD.

Alcover said the gimmick of Odilao will not affect the party in seeking reelection this coming May 10 elections. — THE FREEMAN
