CEBU, Philippines - Three unidentified men fired shots at campaign supporters of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who were resting at a beach in the southern town of Argao evening last Friday.
No one was hurt in the incident, but bullets pierced the windshield of the Mitsubishi Pajero used by Oliver Garcia, Frederic Banagbanag and Jay Raymund Piñero. Three bullet holes were later found on the front portion of vehicle.
Garcia is the nephew of the governor.
In an interview with dySS, Argao police chief Teodulfo Manatad said the victims just finished putting up campaign posters and decided to rest by the beach in Barangay Tulic when three men on board a motorcycle arrived and fired shots at the victims.
One of the suspects reportedly aimed specifically at Piñero, but the latter managed to elude the bullets by diving into the water.
The suspects immediately left after firing several shots.
Manatad said they still could not conclude if the attack had something to do with politics, as investigation is still ongoing.
For his part, Provincial Police Director Sr. Supt. Erson Digal said he already instructed his men to fast track the investigation, but no augmentation force will be sent to the area just yet.(FREEMAN NEWS)
