Corro denies indiscriminate firing
CEBU, Philippines - The camp of Daanbantayan mayoralty aspirant Augusto “Itok” Corro strongly denied that Corro fired a gun inside the family compound in Barangay Poblacion the other day.
Corro’s spokesman Sonny Luche said text messages circulating in Daanbantayan that Corro fired his gun are not true but fabricated.
Luche said Corro’s rivals want to create a scenario that there is a threat on the peace and order situation in Daanbantayan so it will be placed under Comelec control.
“Kining ilang gihimo mao lang ang pag kondisyon sa huna-huna sa taga-Daanbantayan nga angayan gayud nga ipaubos sila sa Comelec control,” said Luche.
Luche said their opponents are now desperate because the people of Daanbantayan are now united and asking for change.
It was the policemen of the Daanbantayan who received a text message from a person who allegedly requested anonymity about the alleged indiscriminate firing of Corro.
PO2 Henry Compuesto, assistant investigator of the incident, said that they only received the text message past 5 p.m. yesterday but the incident happened shortly past midnight the previous day.
According to the sender, Corro fired two shots from his .45 cal. pistol inside his compound at about 12:20 a.m. after he went home from a rally in sitio San Vicente, Barangay Poblacion.
“He was so angry kay during his speech, gi-yagayagaan siya sa supporters ni Malou,” the text further read, referring to Vice Mayor Maria Luisa Loot.
Compuesto said they then went to the area to conduct an investigation. But since the incident occurred several hours ago, they only went as far as asking the residents living nearest to Corro.
The policeman said that while some of the residents alleged they knew nothing about the incident, others said the alleged gunshots sounded more like firecrackers.
But the sender said that a person witnessed the alleged indiscriminate firing.
“Besides, gunshot sound is very different from firecracker explosion,” the sender added. — Jose P. Sollano and Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
