"Panalipdi Kami Sto. Niño"

CEBU, Philippines - “Panalipdi Kami Sto. Niño”  wins 4th Huniño songfest As what is traditionally commemorated for four years now, “Panalipdi Kami Sto. Niño” composed by Lilita Caballos and sang by Norilyn Endrina and Jingle Placencia won the 4th Huniño (Huni Halad Alang Kang Santo Niño) original songwriting contest held at the Basilica del Sto. Niño Church last Tuesday night.

Aside from gaining the best masterpiece, only the duet interpreters got the special award for best interpreter in the said competition. The best musical composition got the P50,000 cash prize while the best interpreters got P10,000.

“Pangamuyo” composed by Joseph Abella and sang by Daryll Shane Leong got the second prize, winning P30,000 cash while the third place entitled “Hinungdan sa Pagtuo” composed and sang by Jay-ar Librando got the P20,000 cash prize.

Among the finalists to the 4th Huniño were “Ikaw Panalipod” composed by Rev. Fr. Ponce Jed Bellones, “Sto Niño Dalan sa Kaluwasan” by Richielou Gonzales, “Among Bawonon” by Manolito Languido with and “Daghang Salamat Sr. Sto Niño” by Russel Aligardo.

“Salamat Sto Niño” by Rommel Ambi, “Prayer to Sto. Niño” by Jean Dabasol, “O Mahal, O Batang Sto. Niño” by Eugene Ebusa, “Sto Niño Hari Ka” by Obdulia Serrano and “Sto Niño Karon og sa Gihapon” by Roger Suycano.

For the time being, Rev. Fr. Raymond Alcaya said that the Huniño is an annual event which started in 2006. It is a competition of original song compositions for Sto. Niño and is open to all who are interested. Its main objective is to promote devotion to Sto. Niño through songs.

The judges of the competition include people who are famous in the field of music, headed by the chairman of the board of judges, Rev. Fr. Jonas Mejares.
