YLAC eyes Mindanao expansion

- Ericson Catalan, Dorothy Mae Acabo -

CEBU, Philippines - The Young Ladies Association of Charity Inc. is inviting more women volunteers in other parts of the country to be part of their advocacy to serve the children.

YLAC national council president Erlinda Torres said they are targeting Mindanao to expand their membership because they have no members yet in that part of the country.

Torres bared the plan to expand their organization to Mindanao during the 3-day National Biennial Convention recently held at the Cebu Grand Hotel.

The event which carried the theme “YLAC Journeying Together in Faith, Service, and Holiness” was the gathering of YLAC members from Luzon and Visayas.

YLAC is an independent religious organization established on 1946 by Aurora “Baby” Quezon, the daughter of former president Manuel L. Quezon.

Torres said that the group’s thrust is reaching out to less fortunate children by conducting feeding programs, medical and dental services not only to the street children but to the prisoners as well.

The group is using the funds from their fund-raising programs and donations from different sectors to finance their activities. They are also accepting help from the government but should not be mixed with politics.

“It’s very inspiring… I’ve been very touched because despite the busy schedules of the women volunteers, they managed to maintain their projects,” Torres shared.

At present, YLAC have 16 units including the cities of Bogo, Talisay and Cebu. Torres who is in her last term is still looking for growth in terms of unit and membership in the country.

According to her, if the community is interested with YLAC, then that would be the time that they will conduct a 3-month orientation and training with the cooperation of the parish priest in the place. – THE FREEMAN
