TO UNBURDEN FAMILY: Man slashes wrist, hangs self to death

-

CEBU, Philippines - To free his family from the problems he was causing, a 32-year-old alleged homosexual committed suicide by, first trying to slash his wrist and, hanging himself from the ceiling of a motel along Gen. Maxilom Avenue Extension, Barangay Carreta, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Ryan Ceniza, a resident of M. Borces St., Barangay Mabolo, left a suicide note written on the room’s wall that is made of mirror.

He used a white soap, issued by the motel, in writing the note.

PO2 Edario Manatad of Cebu City Police Office-Homicide Section said that Ceniza’s body was discovered by Marjie Gomez, motel’s supervisor, and Bryan Berondo, a roomboy, at 10 a.m. yesterday.

About two hours before the discovery of his body, the two claimed they still telephoned Ceniza to remind him of the check out time. The victim checked in at 5 p.m. the previous day.

In a soft voice, Ceniza allegedly answered them back. But at 10 a.m., noticing that Ceniza has not yet checked out, they allegedly knocked at his room but nobody answered.

This prompted them to unlock the door, which was reportedly barricaded by Ceniza with a chair. They then saw Ceniza’s body hanging from the ceiling near the comfort room.

Homicide investigators saw a broken glass apparently taken by Ceniza from one of the frames inside the room and used it in slashing his left wrist.

“Nagkadugo ang towel sa sulod. But siguro wala mag-succeed iyang paglaslas sa pulso maong nag-hang na lang siya sa iya kaugalingon,” Manatad said.

The note, written on the mirror wall, generally expressed his deep sorry to his family for being a troublesome son.

“Ma, sorry na dili ako ang imong anak na imo unta ika-proud. Pasayloa ko sa akong mga sala. Sorry na ako ning nahimo. Mao ra ni solusyon para di na mo mag-antos nako… Ang tindahan dili na ma-short kay wala na’y manguha sa halin, (Ma, sorry for my being a child you can’t be proud of. Forgive me for all my mistakes. Sorry for doing this. This is the only solution so that you’ll no longer suffer because of me. The store will no longer be running short of cash because nobody will be taking them anymore),” part of the note reads.

Ceniza, through the note, also advised his 20-year-old brother, Louie, to study well and finish college to support their family which the victim claimed he had failed to do.

He also asked apology from his uncle for disappointing him last week, though he no longer elaborated on it.

At the end of the note, Ceniza requested two songs that must be sang on his burial: “214” by Rivermaya and “Wherever You Are” by South Border.

The victim’s body was taken to the Rolling Hills in Mandaue City and will be subjected for autopsy, although police said there is no indication of foul play on his death. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
