CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia assured her full support for the realization of the diversion road project envisioned by her group’s mayoralty candidate in Carcar City.
Garcia made the assurance during the politically rally organized by Dr. Nestor Velez and his running mate Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas.
Barcenas, who is now on his last term, is running for vice mayor with Velez as standard bearer of their local Alayon Party.
Garcia said she has been very supportive of the plans and programs of Barcenas.
The tandem of Velez and Barcenas said that the construction of a diversion road is one of the priority projects under their administration.
However, they said that the construction of this diversion road should undergo further study and minimize the problem especially the residents in the city proper.
The city government cannot implement road widening at the city proper because of the old houses preserved by the Historical and Cultural Heritage Committee of the provincial government.
Garcia admitted the need of the diversion road to decongest the traffic in going to Sibonga and Barili.
Aside from the diversion road, both Velez and Barcenas announced that they are also eyeing a new public market, PUJ terminal, new city hall and other infrastructure projects. — THE FREEMAN
