CEBU, Philippines - The Liberal Party in Cebu province, headed by gubernatorial candidate Hilario “Jun-jun” Davide III, is confident to completely cover in their campaign the entire province before the May 10 elections.
Davide said they will be able to reach their target “by all means” especially that they are now scheduling a maximum of 12 campaign sorties daily per municipality per district from handshaking, to “pulong-pulong” and even through text messaging.
They also see to accommodate invitations that are increasing from different parts of the province.
“We will try to cover the entire province in the remaining 20 days of the campaign period. Each family member leads separate teams and radio ads are played frequent in most listened radio stations,” the former Cebu City councilor said.
His father, former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. is leading his own campaign team and his mother Virginia Davide, his wife Jobella, and their three daughters are going on separate routes.
Television ads are scheduled to be aired in the last two weeks of the campaign period while the elder Davide continues his media hopping activities where he shares the issues on corruption and citizen empowerment, which he believes, should be given emphasis now that election day is fast approaching.
The members of the urban poor and other sectoral groups under the Good vs. Evil Brigade are also going full blast sending out their members to visit their families and friends in the municipalities.
These urban poor groups are particularly the over 6,000 families who are living in the lots covered by Provincial Ordinance 93-1 that are located in barangays like Apas, Lahug, Luz and Mabolo who are endangered of losing their homes to the provincial government.
These are also the same families who have been helped by the younger Davide back when he was still serving as a councilor of the city.
Members, comprising 70 operators with over 500 units, of Cebu South Minibus Operators Association, led by Julito Flores are also doing their respective campaigns along with the group of environmental lawyers led by Atty. Gloria Estenzo-Ramos who have expressed dismay over Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s alleged anti-environment policies. Religious groups are also pledging group prayers and vigil for the victory of Davide. “A miracle is expected to happen. The will of the people’s hearts will prevail come May 2010.” — THE FREEMAN
