Women's group supports Villar, initiates first project

CEBU, Philippines - Women On Watch or “WOW for Manny Villar” has launched in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City its first project called “Voters’ educational awareness and information dissemination,” which aims to show voters how to vote correctly in the upcoming May 10 automated elections.

The event was attended by a 120 sitio leaders including barangay chapter officers and members of the Katipunan ng Liping Pilipina or Kalipi, a nationwide women’s organization.

According to WOW president ConCon Kintanar Selma, the women leaders have shown enthusiasm knowing how important it is to be educated and informed on the proper ways of voting during the automated elections.

Many residents in their sitios still don’t have an idea what automated voting is all about.

“Our main focus is to give the Cebuanos quality information on proper voting by giving brief yet concise lectures on how to be a responsible voter. We also include in our agenda Manny Villar’s background and credentials both as a private person, entrepreneur, and public servant to enlighten attendees of the truth behind Villar’s “Sipag and Tiyaga” and his rise to success.” Selma said.

“WOW for MBV” is a parallel group composed of youth and professional volunteers.

Its mission is to help uphold Villar’s advocacy in protecting and empowering the rights of women as manifested in the special law that Villar co-authored: RA 9262 Anti-Violence Against Women and Children’s Act.

Also, Rep. Cynthia A. Villar, wife of Senator Villar, is active in programs relating to women. She has various livelihood projects that support women organizations all over the country. It is for this reason that “WOW for MBV” focuses on women so as to help them succeed in their endeavors by giving them a significant role that would be equally helpful and beneficial to them and their families.

The group shall be visiting different barangays in the city till campaign period is over and impart to every Cebuano that hard work, persistence and perseverance combined with proper education and enhancement of skills could really help uplift the standard of living of every Filipino. (FREEMAN NEWS)
