CEBU, Philippines - The Land Registration Authority signed a memorandum of agreement with Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes yesterday for the construction of an office for the Registry of Deeds in the city.
Lawyer Emmanuel Gimarino, regional director of the Registry of Deeds -7, lawyer Benedicto Taylan, director of Registry of Deeds of Mandaue City, Cortes and city administrator Briccio Boholst yesterday signed the MOA.
The MOA states that the Registry of Deeds will construct a P10 million building near Landbank on a lot owned by the city in barangay Centro. Rental will be waived for 50 years and the contract is renewable for another 50 years.
The groundbreaking ceremony will start anytime soon and the building will be finished within six months.
Cortes said he is glad the new Registry of Deeds Office will just be a stone’s throw away from city hall, making it convenient for taxpayers.
Because taxpayers would no longer travel in completing transactions in real property since the city Assessors Office, City Treasurer’s Office, the Mayor’s Office, and the Registry of Deeds are only adjacent to one another.
The present Registry of Deeds Office is located along M.C. Briones Street in barangay Tipolo. It abandoned its former office at city hall because it was infested by termites. (FREEMAN NEWS)
