Garcia: Tomas just using seniors for his campaign

-

CEBU, Philippines - Former Cebu City mayor Alvin Garcia said Mayor Tomas Osmeña is only using the senior citizens to further his campaign.

In a press conference yesterday at the Marco Polo Plaza, Garcia said Osmeña’s act of giving money to the senior citizens as well as posting stickers around the city that read “Respect the senior citizens” are just part of his political campaign.

“For eight years Tomas Osmeña did nothing for the senior citizens…Is it respect to the senior citizens when he lets them parade while the media took some pictures of them? It’s like using the senior citizens for propaganda,” he commented.

Garcia further said that his waterfront development project and the long-term plans regarding the road construction from Barangay Guadalupe to Barangay Lahug was not pursued by Osmeña despite the support of Cebu City south district Rep. Antonio Cuenco.

Osmeña is running for south district representative on May 10 while Garcia is running for mayor.

Garcia said that if he will be voted as mayor again he will have major changes in his governance. He said he will deliver basic services such as road construction and repair, and the fixing of the drainage in the lowland areas.

Garcia said that he will also add medical facilities and equipment to Cebu City Medical Center and he will also make sure that the collection of garbage of the hospital will be maintained as he observed that this is one of the problems of the hospital.

He added that the delivery of basic needs should also be prioritized instead of giving P10,000 to every graduating high school student. – Abigail Libo-on, NORSU Intern; and Mylen Manto, CNU Intern/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
