Man kills pal over drunken tiff
CEBU, Philippines - A man was stabbed by his friend over a drunken argument last Saturday, 7:30 p.m. in sitio Silot, Barangay Yati, Liloan town, Cebu.
The said incident was reported to the Liloan police station by a concerned citizen.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim, a certain Roque Cortes, 27, a resident of Yati, was allegedly drinking in his house with the suspect identified as Angelito Dampios, alias “Polard”, 28, a native of sitio Sauvan, Barangay Puerto Bello, Tudela town and presently residing in Silot, Yati.
The mother of the victim said that the two were close friends and that nobody expected the incident to happen. She also said that it was normal for the two to argue and then reconcile later on.
SPO2 Marcelino Servilla said during a phone interview that while the two were having an argument, the suspect suddenly broke the glass they were using which led to a more heated argument.
Then Cortes started pushing Dampios around and Dampios decided to leave.
During the said incident, Cortes’ live-in partner was at the house of the suspect watching television with Dampios’ live-in partner who also happens to be her friend.
Dampios arrived home and Cortes followed closely to call his live-in partner to leave when all of a sudden the suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in his left chest.
The suspect fled after the incident. Police immediately responded but were only able to find the knife used by the suspect.
The victim was then rushed to Eversley Medical Center by his neighbors for treatment but the doctor said he arrived already dead.
At around 1 a.m. of April 11, 2010, Liloan police station received a phone call from Mandaue City Police Station 3 in Barangay Basak informing them that Dampios voluntarily surrendered himself to their station.
PO3 Raul Flores and PO1 Teogenes Flores of the Liloan Police Station went to collect the suspect who is now facing a murder case. (FREEMAN NEWS)
