Woman charged for using fake credit card

CEBU, Philippines - A case for violation of Republic Act 8484 or the law on credit card offenses was filed before the Regional Trial Court against a woman who allegedly used fake credit cards in buying items from four boutiques in two big malls.

Facing charges for violation of Section 9 of Republic Act 8484 is Abryan Tala Rodriguez, 28 years old, of Project 4, Quezon City.

On March 30, 2010, Rodriguez allegedly purchased five shoes, four slippers, two t-shirts, two trolleys and one padlock from four boutiques amounting to P43,195.

Based on the affidavits of cashiers Cheryl Tambolero, Gregg Reynes, Evelyn Ruelo, and Janet Dapiton, the respondent purchased the items using a Citibank Visa Card under the name of Maria Rosario V. Gayares

They said that when the receipts for the items were released, Rodriguez hurriedly signed them and immediately left the boutiques.

The complainants said they alter found out that the number of the credit card and the number appearing on the receipt were different, which prompted them to report the same to their superiors.

When Rodriguez and a companion went back to the boutiques on March 31, one of the complainants questioned them about the credit card.

The cashier immediately sought help with the security guard who subsequently placed Rodriguez under arrest. Six more credit cards were also seized from the respondent.

Her companion, however, managed to escape.

Prosecutors recommended a P20,000 bail for Rodriguez’ temporary liberty. She is currently detained at the Mabolo Police Station. — Mylen P. Manto, CNU Intern/JMO    (FREEMAN NEWS)
