"Deranged" father hostages his 2 kids

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged mentally deranged man yesterday held hostage his two children in barangay Manatad, Sibonga.

Adonis Flores, 30, threatened to harm his children, 4 and 2 years old, with the use of a sickle yesterday morning. The suspect however surrendered himself to the police without any negotiation.

Members of the Sibonga Police Station led by SPO2 Darlene Banogon responded to the call for help by the wife of the suspect. Juvilyn together with the officials of barangay Manatad sought the help of the police after Flores scared his children with the scythe.

Banogon said they did not have to negotiate for the suspect to release his hostages because he did not demand for anything and even approached police upon seeing them.

Banogon said when she asked Adonis why he held his children hostage the suspect simply replied “Wala lang.”

“Suol-suol raman ni ang iyaha, gani nakapatay nasab ni siya sa iyang ig-agaw,” Banogon said.

According to Banogon, Flores was not jailed for killing his cousin because nobody filed a complaint.
