Liloan's new public market inaugurated
CEBU, Philippines - The brand new Liloan Public Market in barangay Jubay, which is expected to help accelerate the development of the town, was recently inaugurated.
Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco said the new market will soon benefit not only town residents but also those in nearby towns.
The town allotted P7 million while former president Joseph Estrada, through Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, extended P23 million to build the market.
In an interview with The FREEMAN, Frasco said the new public market will provide both the stall holders and market goers improved facilities, amenities, and services.
The mayor’s deceased father, former mayor Panphil Frasco, came up with the idea of a new market during his term (1992-2001).
The construction, according to the mayor, was completed in 10 months starting last year. The project occupies a two-hectare lot donated by the Frasco family and AboitizLand Inc.
The site is a few meters from the national road.
Frasco described the new public market as “accessible, sanitized and world-class.”
Most importantly, it will decongest the old public market and will readily accommodate the town’s growing population, he said.
During the inauguration, it was attended by TUCP Party-list Rep. Raymond Mendoza, Liloan Vice Mayor Thelma Jordan and municipal councilors, among others. — Garry B. Lao (FREEMAN NEWS)
