Gwen checks passenger flow at CSBT
CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia inspected the Cebu South Bus Terminal to make sure that the riding public will be given protection by the law enforcement agencies.
Garcia was accompanied by businessman Glen Anthony Soco who is seeking the vice gubernatorial post.
With the increasing number of passengers bound for the different towns in the province, Garcia hopes that the safety measures would be strengthened.
Garcia directed the police to make sure that the people using the south bus terminal would be given equal protection.
She said that the police should closely monitor the terminal with the help of other law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, aside from the CSBT, Garcia also directed the police to look into the Cebu North Bus Terminal and the port in Hagnaya, San Remigio town.
Chief Supt. Lani-O Nerez, Police Regional Office 7 director, conducted an inspection in the airport, bus terminals and seaports yesterday morning.
Nerez told the media that all security preparations in all terminals are already put in place.
“Bisan pa og mingaw pa kaayo sa tawo, plantsado na tanan kay naa na sa pwesto ang security sa mga terminals,” Nerez said.
In the airport they have tightened security. The 7th Police Center for Aviation Security and some K9 units are on roving to secure the area and the passengers.
In the north bus terminal, there is the presence of barangay tanods, police personnel and security guards while in the south bus terminal, blue guards, members of the Special Reaction Unit and two K9 units are already deployed.
In the seaports, they also have tightened security where some K9 units in Piers 3 and 4 are already deployed. The Maritime Police are also securing the area.
Nerez said he has been expecting of the influx of people in airport, terminals and ports starting yesterday afternoon because government offices went on a half-day work schedule yesterday.
He is hoping that the measures they are adopting would prevent untoward incidents during the observance of the Holy Week.
Nerez mandated all police stations and highway patrol groups to monitor all public vehicles that will be overloading because such is the cause of most road-related accidents.
“I-monitor namo ang tanang public vehicles nga mag-pick up sa kadalanan kay kining overloading mao ni kasagarang maka-cause sa accidents,” Nerez added. – Jose P. Sollano and Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
