CEBU, Philippines - Administration bet Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has resigned as chairman of Lakas -Kampi-CMD to focus on his presidential campaign.
“Effective immediately I am resigning as chairman of our party to focus all my efforts campaigning for the presidency of the country as the official candidate of Lakas-Kampi-CMD. The party needs at this time a full time Chairman who will be able to respond on a 24/7 basis to the needs of our party candidates running for various elective posts this coming elections," reads Teodoro's letter addressed to the Lakas-Kampi-CMD national executive committee.
Teodoro also announced his resignation in a meeting with members of One Cebu Party headed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia at the Marco Polo Plaza last night. Several mayors and vice mayors allied with One Cebu, as well as some local officials, were present during the gathering.
One Cebu is backing Teodoro's presidential bid.
Teodoro was elected Lakas-Kampi-CMD chairman on November 17, 2009, four months after leaving the Nationalist People’s Coalition. Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno, the party’s vice chairman, is likely to take over his post. –Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/JMO FREEMAN NEWS)
