Oaminal reiterates: Apura not on watchlist
CEBU, Philippines - Former Dangerous Drugs Board vice chairman Clarence Paul Oaminal yesterday reiterated that Carcar Vice Mayor Nicepuro Apura is not and has never been included in the watchlist of DDB or the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Oaminal, who cleared Apura way back in 2007, once again made the clarification after the issue cropped up anew, as the campaign for local candidates kicked off last weekend. Apura is eyeing the mayoralty seat in Carcar.
He said it is unfair to link Apura or any candidate for that matter into involvement in illegal drugs without any proof.
Oaminal issued the clarification, considering that the accusation allegedly comes from DDB and PDEA. The two agencies, however, have not issued an official certification or pronouncement on the matter.
Oaminal is urging all candidates to include program against illegal drugs in their agenda and for voters to be very critical about their candidates’ anti-illegal drugs programs.
Anti-illegal drugs programs should figure in the main agenda of those running for office because addiction to illegal drugs is a problem that far outweighs corruption, economy, and even terrorism, Oaminal said. - Johanna T. Natavio/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
