Ibabao-Estancia won't allow political posters in its territory

CEBU, Philippines - Officials of barangay Ibabao-Estancia in Mandaue City have declared their urban barangay as a poster-free area which means that no political and propaganda materials would be allowed to be displayed along the streets and public places and properties.

The decision was arrived at after the barangay, in coordination with students of the Mandaue Science High School, launched last Sunday their operation “baklas” (tearing off) against illegal propaganda materials.

“We have not spared any politician including the mayor,” said barangay Captain Carmelino del Mar.

Del Mar, who is allied with Mayor Cortes, said he has already informed politicians about the barangay’s decision.

He said when informed, the mayor subscribed to the barangay’s campaign saying he has ensured that all propaganda materials do not violate the Comelec ruling on common poster areas.

“We want our barangay to be clean as much as possible,” del Mar said.
