Mandaue City College holds first graduation

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City College under the leadership of Dr. Susana Cabahug held its first graduation last week at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

The first batch of graduates included 11 from the four-year BSIT course major in automative technology, drafting technology, electronic technology, and electrical technology.

Graduates of various short vocational courses from the vocational technology division of MCFOLTEC numbered 126.

The short courses included automotive technology training, computer-aided design (CAD) training, automotive technology training, garments trade training, practical electricity training, refrigeration and air-conditioning training, and welding and fabrication training.

Mayor Jonas Cortes, chairperson of the college’s board of trustees, in his message commended the parents of the graduates for the sacrifices they made just to give the best education for their children.

“Many of us have risen from our adversities because our parents labored hard just to give the children the best education that they can afford,” Cortes said.

“To the graduates, let your commencement be the start of your journey to a better life,” he said.

“Our graduation was hard earned. Many of us worked during the day and went to school during the night.

This was the statement of Dholberto Lucabon, one of the 137 graduates.

Lucabon is married and resides in barangay Tipolo. He works in a battery shop during the day and goes to school starting at 6 p.m. He is a graduate of BSIT–automotive technology.

“We are thankful to the city government for the opportunity and the lifetime,” said Lucabon.

 Also present during the first graduation ceremony were former education regional director Susana Cabahug, vice-chairperson of the board, City Schools Superintendent Virginia Zapanta, member.

The awardees included Prosper Jerusalem, leadership award, Edwin Embodo, best in practicum, BSIT Drafting Technology, Edward Ygay, best in practicum, BSIT-Automative Technology, and Mercedes Godinez, best in practicum, BSIT- Electronic Technology.
