CEBU, Philippines - Michael Mendoza, the Associated Labor Union area vice president for Visayas-Mindanao, formally took his oath yesterday after being appointed as the new Cebu Port Authority commissioner.
Mendoza said that his appointment as the new CPA commissioner is a sort of a “homecoming” to him, as he was once in the same position during the administration of deposed president Joseph Estrada.
The new CPA commissioner said that he will focus more on the major concern which is the labor sector of the CPA.
“The labor sector is not properly addressed, I’ll focus more on that, we already have a modern port here,” said Mendoza.
He said he will also strengthen the shipping and cargo handling of the CPA.
The CPA is under the supervision of the Department of Transportation and Communication for purposes of policy coordination.
Also, the new commissioner will pursue with the vision of CPA for a world-class port, complemented by a well-equipped and maintained network of ports, contributing to a globally competitive delivery of safe, efficient and effective port services manned by professional, skilled, dedicated and motivated personnel. — Johanna T.
