USC department searching for Soriaga award recipient
CEBU, Philippines - The Chemistry Department of the University of San Carlos is searching for graduates who are rightful beneficiaries of the Moises S. Soriaga Award for Excellence in Chemistry.
The award, which was introduced in March 2007, will be given to exceptional graduates, just like the person whom the award is named after.
Moises Soriaga was a former professor of the department since 1952, teaching organic, analytic, and physical chemistry. He resigned in 1980 but remained a part-time professor on physical chemistry.
Soriaga had been an inspiration to fellow teachers and students due to his dedication to his works. He died in 2006.
The award is only given to one recipient a year. The recipient will receive a plaque and a P10,000 cash.
The award was made possible through the Moises S. Soriaga Award Fund handled by the Chemistry Alumni Association. Donations for the fund are welcomed and may be sent directly to the department chair, Dr. Patrick John Lim. — AJ de la Torre/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
