CEBU, Philippines - The city government will no longer be vying for the longest barbecue record in the Guinness Book of World Records during the launching of the South Road Properties, but it will still be gunning for the record for the largest fireworks display.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said that the long overdue SRP launching will be held a little over a week before the elections on May 10.
The original plan to accept the challenge to break the Guinness World Record for having the longest barbecue will not push through as planned although the city has made a similar attempt in the past.
“It will be a long barbecue but will not be the longest one. If we want to technically comply with the longest barbecue requirement, you should not break the line. But it requires us to break because how are you going to go to the other side, mulusot ka sa grill?” Osmeña said.
“It will improve the flow of pedestrian and movement of people,” he said emphasizing that what’s important is to give entertainment to people who will attend the launching.
“It will be a lot of fun. We will have a concert, barbecue, outdoor dining, etc. I’m very excited. I’m looking forward to it,” Osmeña said.
He said that they are planning to make it a week-long activity. “It’s promoting SRP to the general public.”
City administrator Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez said that the plan to break the record for the largest fireworks display in world history will push through.
Pyroworks, which will attempt to break the record in partnership with the city government, plans to light 110, 000 fireworks in less than a minute, breaking the existing record of largest fireworks display that consisted 66,326 fireworks on December 31, 2006 in Madeira, Portugal. – Jessica Ann R.
