CEDC'S COAL-FIRED POWER PLANT: GMA switches on 82MW more for Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - “The additional power is much needed especially Cebu have been experiencing rotating brownouts.”
So said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who led the switch on ceremony yesterday of the first of three units of the 246 MW coal-fired power plant of the Cebu Energy Development Corporation in Toledo City.
The switch-on ceremony signaled the full operation of the 82 MW first unit coming at a time when Cebu and other provinces in the region are experiencing rotating brownouts.
The switching on of the said plant is a breakthrough not only for CEDC but also for the Province of Cebu.
CEDC’s $450-million or roughly P3 billion coal-fired power plant is a joint venture of Global Business Power Corp., the power arm of the Metrobank Group, Formosa Heavy Industries Corp, Aboitiz Power Corp and Vivant Power Corp.
Units 2 and 3 are expected to go on line by the end of May and the end of December, respectively.
Arroyo said that since this power plant uses clean coal technology, we can assure that our air has less carbon emissions as compared to the old technology. — /NLQ(FREEMAN NEWS)
