Boy, 15, dies in bike accident

CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year-old high school student died in a motorcycle accident that was blamed on a dog that suddenly crossed the street in Barangay Tunga, Moalboal town yesterday dawn.

Kevin Saac suffered from injuries in the different parts of his body and a severe head wound, which resulted after his head hit a concrete base of an electric post along the national highway.

Police said that at around 12:30 a.m., Jesus Ombos, of legal age, was driving his Suzuki smash motorcycle bearing a plate numbers IJ-2027 with the victim and two other friends, identified as Marlo Veloso, and Julevin Veloso, all of legal ages, on pillion.

PO1 Camelo Zafra, traffic investigator of Moalboal Police Station said that the victims were on their way home and upon reaching the area, two stray dogs suddenly crossed the street.

Ombos was allegedly caught off-guard and hit one of the dogs which made him lose control of the vehicle and swerved to the side of the road. Marlo, who was seated in front of the driver, allegedly fell to the ground while Saac hit a concrete base of an electric post. Julevin and Ombos were dragged on the road and only sustained minor injuries.

“Namisita ni sila gikan sa uyab sa driver unya murag nakainom gamay. Mura’g paryente rani sila kay pareha raman og mga apilyedo pero siguro ko nga silingan rani sila,” Zafra said, adding that the relatives of Saac and the other passengers have visited the police station to manifest that they are not interested in filing a case against the driver. — Gabriel C.
