CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old man was shot and killed reportedly by his neighbor shortly after midnight yesterday in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
Police said the killing of Jemar Galido, a jobless out-of-school youth, was part of a series of shooting incidents motivated by a personal grudge among neighbors in the barangay.
The suspect, identified as Roel Pardillo, 17, went into hiding and police failed to arrest him during a hot pursuit operation.
According to Harold Joseph Hernando, 19, he and Galido were drinking with their other neighbors.
While they were drinking, Hernando said Galido left to look for a certain “Daut” in the nearby area, alleging that the suspect then waylaid the victim and shot him several times.
Galido sustained gunshot wounds to his back, prompting police to believe that the victim tried to go back to his direction during the attack.
The victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police Officer 2 Edario Manatad of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said a long-standing grudge was seen as the motive for the incident. — Niña G. Sumacot/LPM (FREEMAN NEWS)
