ST. BERNARD GIVES BACK: City gets nebulizers, wheelchairs

CEBU, Philippines - The city government yesterday received 50 nebulizers and 20 wheelchairs from Mayor Rico Rentuza of St. Bernard town, Southern Leyte as aid for the city’s various health programs.

Rentuza said that the medical equipment are donated by the Pro-Poor Pharmacy where he sits as the chairman of the board of directors.

Pro-Poor Pharmacy is a non-profit company that distributes free medicines and other medical equipment to local government units that are implementing pro-poor programs.

“Since we have seen that Mayor Osmeña is implementing different programs for the poor, we are giving these equipment to help the city with its cause for the poor and also to exercise our social responsibility,” Rentuza said.

He said that this is also St. Bernard’s way of returning favor because Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has actively sent aid to St. Bernard during the landslide tragedy that caused major destruction to the town in 2006. The city government also donated one Kaohsiung Bus to the town.

Osmeña personally received the equipment yesterday at the conference room of the City Hall.

The City Health Department is also set to purchase additional aneroid blood pressure apparatuses and stethoscopes for each of the 381 barangay health workers to improve their services.

Through this, barangay health workers can now conduct house-to-house visits to provide basic health services to their constituents. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
