Man and drinking pal charged for death of girlfriend's father

-

CEBU, Philippines - Two alleged members of the Bloods Gang were slapped with murder charges for the shooting to death of a man in barangay Tisa, Cebu City last February 24.

A non-bailable charge for murder has been filed against Glenn de Guzman and Joaquin Cornejo also known as “Waray” after being arrested by police for shooting the father of Cornejo’s girlfriend, Richard Niez.

Richard Niez, a construction painter, was shot several times allegedly by his neighbors Jonas Flores alias “Jonas Bardinas”, Cornejo alias “Waray”, and de Guzman.

Cornejo is reportedly the boyfriend of the victim’s 14-year-old daughter. Flores is still at large.

According to the police, Niez was out to bring his daughter home from a nearby shanty where the girl often hangs out with her peers. The girl is also accused as a member of the said gang.

The girl said that at 10:40 p.m. of February 24, she was inside the shanty in a drinking session with the three suspects.

The minor said that she heard Flores and de Guzman saying, “Human sa akong birthday, inig ka-ugma naa gyoy i-news (Somebody would be on the news the day after my birthday).”

His father who was allegedly drunk came to the shanty after being called out by her mother who reprimanded her to go home.

His father angrily called out her name telling her to come out of the shanty or else he will ask someone to destroy it.

The three allegedly faced him and at the height of the confrontation, the suspects reportedly got irked and then ganged up on the victim, beat him and then shot him several times to the shoulders, the abdomen, and to the arm.
