CEBU, Philippines - At least fourteen persons were injured in a vehicular accident at the national highway in barangay Lugo, Borbon town last Thursday evening.
The driver of the Ceres Bus bearing plate number JVJ-523 identified as Mario Amasola and his “konductor” (fare collector) identified as Jose Oberes, both 35 years old, got seriously wounded together with passengers Carrena Natividad, 24, and Margie Ygot, 43. They were rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
The other passengers who also got hurt were identified as Jose Caguit, 21; Ernesto Verdid of undetermined age; Linly Ornopia Jr., 40; Alex Rivera, 30; Jessie Carbo, 29; Pablito Rondina, 52; and the Surigao family – Ruel, 37; Ruth, 35; Siegfred, 10; and Sidney, four years old. They were rushed to the Juan Dosado Hospital in Sogod town.
Police initial investigation revealed that the bus was traveling from Bogo City bound for Cebu City. Upon reaching Lugo at around 7 p.m., Amasola noticed of a gas truck bearing plate number PSM 577 parked along the highway. The driver Sergio Gastador parked the truck there after experiencing mechanical trouble, this was further learned.
Amasola reportedly tried to maneuver past the truck but a vehicle was coming from the opposite direction. In a move to veer away from colliding with the vehicle, the bus hit the rear of the parked truck instead.
Police are still waiting for the recovery of the driver as well as the passengers to be able to get accounts from them and conduct an in-depth investigation on the incident.
Also, an eight-year-old girl got injured after she was hit by a passenger multicab in Alcoy town last Friday noon.
Cristel Joy Medico, resident of barangay Daang Lungsod, sustained injuries after the multicab bearing plate number GXG-496 driven by a certain Isagani Carlos, 45, of barangay Poblacion, hit her.
The vehicle driven by Carlos is owned by one Victoria Sarcaba of barangay Pasol, also of the said municipality.
Police initial investigation revealed that Carlos was plying towards Boljoon town. Upon reaching Daang Lungsod, Medico allegedly suddenly crossed the street and was apparently hit by the multicab.
Medico was immediately taken to a hospital here in Cebu City while Carlos voluntarily surrendered to the Alcoy Police.
According to PO2 Raul Medez, in an interview over dySS Super Radyo, Carlos is currently detained at the police station while waiting for the family of the victim to come for the possible filing of charges. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
