Newly furnished classroom for Lacion pupils

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Ayala Business Club Cebu, Incorporated (ABCCI) has reinforced its Adopt-A-School project in Consolacion by inaugurating a newly furnished kindergarten classroom at the Garing Elementary School in the town last Friday.

ABCCI also donated P50,000 to the school, courtesy of its partner Children’s Hour.

The project at Garing Elementary School started with a 12-week feeding program for 318 students last September 2009. It is being supported by 12 active members of ABCCI, including Isuzu Cebu Inc., the Cebu Marriott Hotel, Globe Telecom, Cebu Holdings Inc., Honda Cars, Bank of the Philippine Islands, BPI-MS Insurance, Ayala Center Cebu and E-Telecare.

The Cebu City Marriott Hotel supported the renovation of the classrooms for kindergarten pupils for which two washbasins were created while Isuzu Cebu Inc. donated used computer units to assist in the educational development of the children.

During the holidays, each of the 318 children was given “Christmas shoeboxes” with the help of Samaritan’s Purse International. Each box contained toys and goodies donated by families from all over the world. Samaritan’s Purse International has distributed eight million “shoeboxes” worldwide with 350,000 in the Philippines.

ABCCI chose Garing Elementary School following a book giving program initiated earlier by Isuzu Cebu Inc. – Consolacion Branch. ABCCI saw the needs of the school, especially in the area of rehabilitation.

After rehabilitation and renovation of the school, ABCCI will also give focus on a scholarship program for the students in the school. — Antoniette T. Parce/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
