One Cebu bets celebrate V-day in the south

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and her runningmate businessman Glenn Anthony Soco accompanied by some Capitol department heads and local officials celebrated Valentine’s Day yesterday by distributing cash assistance and inaugurating projects in the towns of Barili, Argao and Naga City.

The governor has made this her yearly activity instead of visiting the malls and other places to relax and celebrate the Valentine’s Day.

Accompanied by Soco, her rumored boyfriend, Garcia attended a Holy Mass at the Sta. Ana Shrine in Barili town before they attended a program at Bolocboloc Training Center where she distributed “lakatan” (a local variety of banana) suckers, sweet potato cuttings, organic fertilizers and also goats to the residents of the town who were beneficiaries of the province Goat Dispersal Program.

In Argao town, Garcia also led the inauguration of Calagasan barangay road and the switch-on of the Calagasan Electrification Project. She also distributed multi-cabs to the barangay officials.

From Calagasan, the governor proceeded to barangay Linut-od where she also led the distribution of lakatan suckers, knapsack sprayers, organic liquid fertilizers and vegetable seeds. The residents also received goats and the barangay officials got multi-cabs from the provincial government.

At the controversial Balili lot in Naga City, Garcia led the planting of mangroves and of lakatan suckers.

In her speech, the governor said her administration will continue serving the people by improving the delivery of basic services to the residents especially in the barangays.

For his part, Soco said he joined Garcia’s activities yesterday to support her and to familiarize himself with the barangays and towns under the province.

Soco, who is seeking the vice gubernatorial post, admitted that there is a need to familiarize himself with the different towns and listen to the problems and concerns of the residents especially of the barangay officials.—Jose P. Sollano/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
