ANAD awards Gwen for anti-red policies

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy partylist awarded Governor Gwendolyn Garcia a plaque of appreciation for her all-out support of the advocacy of the group to abolish Communism in the country, particularly Cebu, as ANAD celebrates its 22nd founding anniversary today.

“No other governor has ever solved the problem of insurgency without a single shot fired,” said ANAD partylist founder and Representative Jun Alcover in appreciation of how Garcia was able to make Cebu insurgency-free over the years of leadership.

“Pwede ra diay malimpyo ang Pilipinas na dili mag-gamit og bala. Sa pag-declare ni Gwen og “all-out-war” against insurgency, dili patay kundi kalinaw ang natagamtam sa mga rebelde,” Alcover said.

The Cebu provincial government offers assistance to rebel returnees who want to turn heir back on the rebel movement. Financial aid is given to each returnee, plus they get to avail of the basic services of the government since they are already back in mainstream society.

Garcia yesterday reported that on March 1, the Armed Force of the Philippines will officially turn over the Internal Security Operations to the provincial security where in the AFP will formally declare Cebu as insurgency-free.

Alcover said he passed a resolution in Congress urging the government to create programs and policies that will make use of the local government units to eradicate insurgency in their area.

He said that it is the LGU who knows exactly what these rebels need and how to deal or negotiate with them.

Sending the military to solve the problem may lead to human rights violations and violence which does not really contribute to the solution, “among nakit-an nga the more you kill the NPA’s, the more they will multiply,” Alcover said.

ANAD is an anti-communist group that seeks peace, freedom and justice through the abolition of communism in the country.

After a Mass in Sto. Rosario Parish, there will be a program at the Sacred Heart Center to be attended by ANAD members and supporters from all over the country.

During the event, Alcover will announce the three nominees from which one will be chosen to sit in the congress if the party wins the May 2010 elections.

As a pre-celebration, they launched yesterday the Cebu Association of Media Practitioners forum sponsored by ANAD and will be aired over dyMR Radyo ng Bayan every Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
