ALL DANCE AND NO PLANTS?: Inmates ordered to make food sufficiency a priority
CEBU, Philippines - The dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center are directed to focus on the planting of crops on vacant lots at the vicinity of the provincial jail.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said planting should be on top of their other activities, though they are not refrained from dancing as part of the rehabilitation program of the CPDRC management.
According to her, the dancing inmates should maximize use of vacant lots within the jail facility to sustain food sufficiency.
“Sila gyod ang nagtanom nianang mga utanon nga ilang gigamit matag adlaw,” Garcia said.
Garcia said she already instructed the Provincial Social Welfare Office, the Provincial Health Office, and the Provincial Agriculturist Office to closely look into the situation of the inmates.
Garcia further said that the inmates are not barred from dancing. In fact, a new choreographer will be hired soon after their choreographer resigned last January 28.
Earlier, Garcia issued a memorandum stating that all CPDRC-related activities will now be handled by the Office of the Governor.
Garcia reasoned out that the move seeks to protect the image of the province in the way it is handling the dancing inmates and especially with regards to donated money.
The governor said that all donations are deposited to a trust fund and that donors are properly issued a receipt. — Jose P. Sollano/MEEV (FREEMAN NEWS)
